Expert Safety Consulting

We realise that the requirements of the marine industry can sometimes be difficult to navigate and understanding what is needed for the running of a safe charter business in terms of operational procedures and standard practices of work can be confusing.

At Sail Safer, we have a strong background in the British Shipping Industry and we help to apply the principles employed within this industry to the small boat charter market.

Our Story and Background

Sail Safer Charter Consultants was formed in 2023 after noticing some gaps within the British maritime small coded vessel industry. After some market research, we noticed that the standard of procedures and Safety Management Systems for many small charter vessels was in need of some improvement. We also recognised that guidance from relevant authorities on the topic of creating Safety Management Systems for the small coded charter vessel market was either difficult to find, ineffective or non-existent. Being a merchant mariner for many years, our founder, Ben, set the company up with a vision of trying to bridge the gap between the UK Shipping and UK Small Commercial Vessel Industries by implementing the good working practices and principles used with in the shipping industry.

Under Section 100 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, which is UK law, an owner of a vessel is required to "take all reasonable steps to secure that the ship is operated in a safe manner". A set of comprehensive company procedures for your staff members to follow is an important piece of the jigsaw for the operation of a vessel in a "safe manner".

At Sail Safer we understand that producing high quality bespoke Safety Management Systems and Procedures from scratch is both very time consuming and require a lot of prior knowledge and expertise to ensure high quality results. This is where we come in.
